Like
many people, I have a jar full of old coins from the pas 100 years.
When I looked at them, they had become worn and tarnished because of
the time, I wanted to clean them. There are different methods to
clean coins, but the most important principle is the chemistry and
how it is applied. Most popular way to clean coins is to wash them
with a compound of water, mild acid and salt.
There
are few commercial cleaning companies who offer cleaning services in
this matter, but this kind of services is quite expensive, because it
is not ordinary cleaning, but complex chemical procedure. So do not
waste time to search for cleaning company which would clean
your collection of coins. So if the coins have value be careful, you
may by accident destroy their value. The things that are needed to
clean the coins are quite simple. Fill on the half a plastic or glass
bowl, with water, then add ¼ cup of white vinegar and one tea spoon
of salt in the water. Of course there are special solvents available
to purchase. Leave the coins in the bowl about five minutes, then
rinse them and dry them, and see them how are now shining. Because of
the copper used in the composition or any other specific ingredients,
many coins get tarnished and dull.
Copper
slowly reacts with oxygen in the air, which forms copper oxide. You
can also to use lemon juice instead vinegar, because of the high acid
concentration in the lemon.
